Centrestage’s P6-S1 Music Theatre Company present the classic musical Annie this weekend. The youngsters at the Kilmarnock theatre are currently hard at work rehearsing for the classic rags-to-riches story which they will perform on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3.
Set in 1933 New York, the show follows young Annie as she attempts to escape from the Municipal Girls Orphanage - ran by child-hating matron Miss Hannigan – and find her parents. On the way she befriends the billionaire owner of the Warbucks Mansion, Oliver Warbucks.
This perennial favourite first appeared on Broadway in 1977 and was made into a film in 1982. Annie Jr. includes the popular songs “It’s A Hard Knock Life”; “You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”; “Easy Street” and of course “Tommorrow.”
Performances of Annie Jr. are on Saturday, June 2 at 3pm and 6pm and on Sunday, June 3 at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets cost £8 and £6 for concessions and are available from the box office at Centrestage Music Theatre, 11–13 James Little Street, Kilmarnock; on 01563 551505 or at www.centrestagemusictheatre.org.uk.
