Return to the Forbidden Planet
Talk about an adventure of meteoric proportions- Centrestage's 15-21yrs Music Theatre Company certainly know how to put on a show! Join Captain Tempest (played by Calum Rankin) as he takes his fearless crew on a journey through time and space in an attempt to defeat the monstrous scientific abomination in this Shakespearian sci-fi musical "Return to the Forbidden Planet". As the cast board the U.S.S. Albatross, hurtle through galaxies and experience zero gravity, they are pulled into the planet of D'illyria where the crew discovers Dr. Prospero (played by Andrew McCluskie and Cameron Tasker). The doctor has spent 15 years in hiding on the mysterious planet with his daughter Miranda and robot Ariel; after meeting Tempest, he deludes the captain and his crew into believing that he is a hero.
Like any great story, of course there has to be a tragic love triangle! Cookie, played by David Brown, becomes utterly smitten with Miranda, played by Katie Bremner and Raiyah Strachan, who falls hopelessly in love with Captain Tempest, who only has eyes for himself.
When asked to describe this cosmic production, Calum Rankin laughs and says, "It's like snakes on a plane, except... It's Shakespeare on a spaceship!" And if that isn't enough for you to come and see this spectacular show, I don't know what is!
